Are you passionate about the arts, and would like to be a part of an organization dedicated to promoting youth culture and perspectives?

delve Magazine is not just a space for writers and artists! Curating, managing, and publishing a magazine is a lot of work and requires team effort. There are many opportunities for individuals to get involved with our operations, on many different levels and in various positions.

While we are open to all community members, as an organization that currently receives funding from the University of Guelph, executive and editorial positions will be prioritized towards current U of G students or alumni. If you are submitting a pitch for consideration, please consult our Submissions page instead.

As we are a small community, individuals may (and often) end up fulfilling multiple roles, so it’s easy to get involved!

Membership in delve Magazine is divided into three groups The Editorial Board, the Executive, and General Membership.

The Editorial Board

The Editorial board is a body that is responsible for making operational and curatorial decisions about the magazine and its content. It is comprised of two Editors-in-Chief, and three Editors-at-Large. In order to ensure our mandate regarding the publication of diverse opinions, we maintain a quota in which two-thirds of the Board must be comprised of individuals who identify with groups who have traditionally been underrepresented. If you are interested in applying for this position, contact us directly with a sample of your writing and any previous editorial or publication work, and we will respond with more detailed requirements pertaining to your potential candidacy.

There are currently no open positions on the Editorial Board. The selection process for the board usually commences on the retirement or resignation of a current board member.

The Executive

There are a number of executive positions open to all students. Members of the executive play an important role in assisting the Editorial board with both curatorial and administrative tasks regarding the publication, as well as the organization of events pertaining to it. These positions are as follows. Some positions may also be filled by members of the Editorial Board.

General Executive (Layout/Writing)

We are always looking for extra help when it comes to writing articles, or designing layouts for our print edition. While members of the Editorial Board also fulfill these responsibilities, there are times where external input is often valued and appreciated. If you are interested in fulfilling these roles, please contact us with samples of your writing or visual design!

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining and managing the finances of the publication, acting as an additional signing authority over the publication’s finances and bank accounts. The successful candidate should be able to responsibly manage the publication’s assets, and operate in a position of trust.

Webmaster

The webmaster is responsible for serving as the primary caretaker of our website, including periodic maintenance. They may also be called upon to post submitted content and ensure that it is formatted correctly and consistent in its presentation online. The successful candidate should have a competency using the WordPress publishing platform. Knowledge in web design, including coding practices (such as CSS, HTML, and PHP) is a bonus.

Social Media Manager

Our Social Media manager is a driven and creative individual who is responsible for promoting our publication and events through our various social media accounts. The ideal candidate is someone who has both technical skill in graphic design, as well as a good eye for marketing practices. Knowledge with Canva is a must, while knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite will be considered an asset.

Events Co-ordinator

As a campus organization, on top of our publishing, we also aim to run events that engage the broader community. These events range from studio and gallery visits, to various workshops designed to hone student’s skills in fields such as writing for the arts, and creative publishing. The successful candidate will assist the Editorial Board in leading, organizing, and promoting these events in co-ordination with other members of the Executive such as the Treasurer and Social Media Manager.

Publishing & Outreach Co-ordinator

Our publication is not an island, and as such, benefits directly from intense collaboration and co-ordination with other like-minded organizations. Our Publishing and Outreach Co-ordinator will largely be responsible for facilitating these relationships, and fostering new ones where appropriate. These include reaching out to other organizations on campus, meeting up with vendors and publishers, as well as serving as our liaison with the College of Arts Student Union. We are seeking passionate individuals to fulfill this role, and the successful candidate should have some prior experience in team-building and professional outreach.

General Membership

If you would still like to contribute to delve, but are not able to commit to an executive or editorial role, don’t fret! Our General Membership is open to all, with no prior experience required. Our General Meetings are great places to meet other, like-minded and creative individuals. The Executive and Editorial teams are always open for feedback and contributions from our community members!

Stay tuned for future meeting dates on our social media platforms!
